Mitchell Baker Surges Past Ole Romeny and Sets Sights on Indonesia’s Goal-Scoring Legends

Mitchell Baker has quickly emerged as one of Indonesia’s most exciting attacking prospects after making a remarkable start to his international career. The 19-year-old striker has already surpassed Ole Romeny’s goal tally for the national team and is beginning to attract attention as a potential future record-breaker.

Since becoming an Indonesian citizen in July, Baker has made an immediate impact up front. Standing at 196 centimeters, the Georgetown Hoyas forward has impressed with his finishing ability and physical presence. His performances have given Indonesia another promising option in a position that has often lacked a consistent source of goals.

Baker has scored four goals in four appearances at the 2026 ASEAN Championship before adding another five goals in just three matches in the FIFA ASEAN Cup Division 1. His total now stands at nine goals from seven international appearances, giving him an outstanding scoring rate of 1.3 goals per game. By comparison, Romeny has scored seven goals in 13 appearances for Indonesia.

The young striker now has a long-term opportunity to challenge some of the country’s greatest goal scorers. Abdul Kadir remains at the top of Indonesia’s all-time list with 70 goals, while Bambang Pamungkas has 38 and Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto has 33. Baker’s nine goals also put him within striking distance of the 21-goal mark recorded by Omo Suratmo, which could open the door to a place among Indonesia’s top scorers.

Despite his impressive numbers, Baker still has plenty to prove against stronger opposition. His goals have largely come against teams considered weaker than Indonesia, and he was unable to find the net in the final against Thailand. Maintaining his scoring form against higher-level opponents will be crucial if he is to turn his remarkable beginning into a sustained international career and eventually challenge the records held by Indonesia’s legendary forwards.
